Youth Empowerment for Positive Change on International Youth Day

On Friday, August 9th, 2024, Nyando Social Justice Center, in collaboration with Nyakach Environmental Group, celebrated International Youth Day by empowering the girl child and promoting climate justice at Mbugra Primary School in West Nyakach Ward, Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County.

The event, which ran from 9:30 AM to 5:35 PM, brought together various partners, including Green World Advocates, the County Government of Kisumu, Kenya Red Cross, The Esca Foundation, Toto Green Space, and Britam.

The day's activities commenced with a word of prayer, introductions, and football games. The highlight of the event was the tree planting exercise, which symbolized the youth's commitment to environmental conservation and climate action.

The girls also participated in mentorship sessions and received sanitary towels, a gesture that aimed to promote their well-being and education. The smiles on the faces of the girls and the community members present were a testament to the positive impact of this initiative.

By empowering the youth, particularly the girl child, and engaging them in climate-related activities, Nyando Social Justice Center demonstrated its commitment to fostering sustainable development and creating a better future for all.

Youth Leading Positive Change in Their Community

Nyando Social Justice Center believes that young people are the driving force behind positive change in their communities. By providing platforms for youth engagement and leadership, the organization aims to nurture a generation of change-makers who are passionate about social justice, human rights, and community development. Through initiatives like the International Youth Day celebration, Nyando Social Justice Center encourages young people to take an active role in addressing the challenges facing their communities. By participating in mentorship programs, girls learn valuable life skills and gain confidence in their abilities to make a difference.

Youth Leading Positive Climate Action in Their Community

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing the world today, and young people are at the forefront of the fight for a sustainable future. Nyando Social Justice Center recognizes the importance of engaging the youth in climate action and promoting environmental conservation.

The tree planting exercise at Mbugra Primary School was a symbolic gesture that highlighted the youth's commitment to protecting the planet. By involving the girls in this activity, Nyando Social Justice Center aimed to inspire them to become champions of climate justice and to take action in their own communities.

As we commemorate International Youth Day, it is clear that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the change-makers of today. Nyando Social Justice Center's efforts to empower the youth and engage them in positive change and climate action serve as an inspiration to communities across Kenya and beyond.
