World AIDS Day Commemoration

The World AIDS Day commemoration in Kisumu provided a platform for various stakeholders to come together and reflect on the impact of HIV/AIDS on the community. It also served as a reminder of the importance of continued efforts to prevent new infections and ensure that people living with HIV have access to the care and support they need.

The event was an opportunity to highlight the progress that has been made in the response to HIV/AIDS, while also acknowledging the challenges that still exist. By coming together to mark World AIDS Day, the participants demonstrated their solidarity with people living with HIV and their commitment to ending the epidemic.

Dignity Kits Donation

In addition to the event, there were donations of dignity kits to the community members especially adolescent girls and young women affected by HIV/AIDS. These kits comprised:

  • 2 packs of sanitary pads
  • A bar of soap
  • A packet of unga (cooking oil)
  • Assorted cereals

The donation of these dignity kits aimed to provide practical support to those in need, helping to improve their overall well-being and quality of life.

Ongoing Work

The Nyando Social Justice Center's participation in the event was a reflection of its ongoing work in the community. Despite the challenges it has faced, including the recent burning of its offices, the center has remained dedicated to providing sanctuary and support for women survivors of gender-based violence and human rights defenders. Its involvement in the World AIDS Day celebration was a testament to its resilience and determination to continue its important work.

The World AIDS Day celebration in Kisumu County was a powerful reminder of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the community and the importance of collective action in response to the epidemic. The participation of the Nyando Social Justice Center, along with other organizations and community members, was a clear demonstration of their commitment to the cause.

As the fight against HIV/AIDS continues, events like this serve as a crucial opportunity to come together, reflect on progress, and recommit to the goal of ending the epidemic.
