Tree Planting Activity

Led by Nyando Social & Nyabende Support Programmes

On the 13th of November, a tree planting activity was conducted by the Nyando Social Justice Center, led by the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) of Nyando Region. The event was held on a public holiday in Kenya, and it brought together members of both the Nyabende Support Programmes and the Nyando Social Justice Center.

The tree planting initiative is a significant step towards environmental conservation and community development. It not only contributes to the preservation of the natural ecosystem but also promotes sustainable practices for future generations. The involvement of the ACC Nyando Region underscores the importance of government and community collaboration in environmental initiatives.

The Nyando Social Justice Center, situated approximately 30 km east of Kisumu, has been actively involved in various community-based projects, including legal training and capacity-building of grassroots organizations to better assist survivors of human rights violations, including gender-based violence.

The tree planting activity aligns with the broader national efforts to address environmental challenges, such as climate change. As evidenced by the #Kenya tree planting day with #Mathare social justice kids, there is a concerted national drive to plant 15 billion trees in Kenya over the next 10 years.

The involvement of local organizations like the Nyando Social Justice Center and Nyabende Support Programmes contributes to this national endeavor and exemplifies the grassroots contribution to a larger environmental cause.

Such initiatives not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also foster a sense of collective responsibility and stewardship within the community.

The event underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between government authorities, local organizations, and community members in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development.
