Late last month, from January 20th to 24th, the Nyando Social Justice Center proudly conducted the second round of Gender Entrepreneur Training in Nyalenda slums. This initiative follows the successful training of the first group of 20 participants in October 2024 in Ahero, Nyando. Supported by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) through our partner WOFAK, this project is part of our broader Economic Empowerment Pillar aimed at uplifting marginalized communities.
Fostering Economic Independence
The Gender Entrepreneur Training program is designed to equip women with essential skills and knowledge to thrive in business. Participants engage in various modules that cover critical aspects of entrepreneurship, including financial literacy, business planning, and market analysis. By empowering women economically, we aim to foster independence and resilience within the community.
Addressing Local Challenges
Nyalenda slums face unique challenges, including high unemployment rates and limited access to resources. Through this training, we are addressing these issues head-on by providing participants with the tools they need to create sustainable businesses. The skills learned during the training not only benefit the participants but also contribute to the overall economic development of the community.
Building on Previous Success
The first training session held in Ahero was met with enthusiasm and positive feedback from participants, who reported increased confidence in their entrepreneurial abilities. Building on this success, the recent training in Nyalenda has attracted even more participants eager to learn and grow.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, the Nyando Social Justice Center is committed to continuing these training programs and expanding our reach to more communities. We believe that empowering women through entrepreneurship is a vital step towards achieving gender equality and improving living standards for families.
We invite all stakeholders to support our initiatives aimed at economic empowerment. Together, we can create a brighter future for women in our communities and ensure that they have equal opportunities to succeed. Through programs like the Gender Entrepreneur Training, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering social justice and economic resilience within marginalized communities. The journey towards empowerment continues, and we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
