We Moved Offices Temporarily

The Arson Attack

Tragedy struck the Nyando Social Justice Center on July 19, 2023, when its offices were burnt down in an arson attack. The fire was caused by teargas cannisters thrown at the center by the police.

The Nyando Social Justice Center was established to provide space for the community to succeed in their pursuit of social justice, where the community can come together in support of the common good. The center has provided sanctuary and support for women survivors of gender-based violence and human rights defenders for almost ten years.

Despite this setback, the center's commitment to its mission remains unwavering. The center had to continue operations in the rubble without proper offices before identifying the new temporary location. The support from partners gave the center the opportunity to slowly rise from the ashes.

The center's commitment to its mission is evident in the work it does, and the impact it has had on the community. The arson attack on the Nyando Social Justice Center is a reminder of the challenges that social justice organizations face in their work. The attack highlights the need for more support and resources to be directed towards social justice organizations to enable them to continue their work.
